About
Phoebe Stewart Carter hails from Gloucestershire, England, and grew up between the UK and Maryland, USA.
Phoebe began drawing and painting at a young age but felt the need to understand the medium technically before wanting to use it expressively.
In 2017 she became a student of artist Nick Beer in his studio in Salisbury, England. While in Salisbury she was introduced to academic drawing techniques that were taught through the 19th century. Being determined to further her education, she travelled to Italy in 2018 to begin intensive training at the Florence Academy of Art (FAA). Having spent four years studying, as well as teaching at the FAA, Stewart Carter developed a strong understanding of 19th century academic and figurative work.
After having graduated from the drawing and painting course, Phoebe was awarded a position as an artist in residence and instructor at the FAA.
In 2023 Phoebe moved to Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, where she currently takes commissions and works on personal projects encompassing topics such as travel, mining and international supply chain, as well as traditional portraiture and landscape.
Stewart Carter exhibits
internationally, and has been awarded prizes for her portraiture by The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Art Renewal Center, and The Portrait Society of America.
2017-2018 - studied under Nicholas Beer at Sarum Studios in Salisbury, England.
2018-2021 - studied drawing and painting at The Florence Academy of Art in Italy.
2021-2022 - artist in residence and instructor at the Florence Academy of Art.
Current - working on private projects and commissions from her studio in Northumberland, United Kingdom.

Buying and Commissioning Work
Phoebe works from life, predominantly under natural lighting and specialises in portraiture, landscapes and still life. All of her work, including commissions, have been executed under these same conditions.
