Under the Doge’s Palace Arches

25 x 30cm

40 x 45cm framed

Oil on board

Painted in February 2024 on an en plein air painting trip to Venice. This piece was painted sheltering from the rain, underneath the ornate arches of the Doge’s Palace.

This piece is framed in a hand finished dark blue frame with a gilt edge and gilt corner motif. Using traditional gesso, gilding, and ageing techniques, I have hand-finished the frames in the style of the 17th century Italian cassetta.

The frames made for this collection are especially designed as an extension of the painting - and a nod towards Italian history and culture.
